Brainstorming the word Crisis

 Pandemic, Sadness, Dangerous, Mentally Unstable, Specific Period, Difficult,  Disruption, Long and fear are most of the word that came to mind when I taught of the word CRISIS!

Putting these word into categories were a bit tricky, but I eventually I managed to group them acordingly:

Pandemic---------> was categorised under "Outbreak/Disease "

Sadness, Mentally Unstable, and Fear--------> were categorised under "Emotions"

Dangerous, Difficult, and Disruption---------> were categorised under "Harm"

Specific Period, and Long--------> were categorised under "Time"



I found this exercise to be very interesting and helpful. Brainstorming helps to stimulate your ideas, and this has helped me to choose and categorize what came to mind when I thought of the word crisis. What was most difficult for me was categorizing my ideas that were grouped together. After I jotted down my ideas, I put the words that were similar in groups, and placed them into my graphic organizer which was a Venn diagram. This help me to find a broad theme in order to better analyze the words I brainstormed. This exercise has taught me to expand my critical thinking as it relates to grouping and categorizing my ideas that were brainstormed.

Russell Baker's essay was a confusing read at first but turned out to be a hilarious piece. He chose a primarily directed method to carving a turkey in his essay. Russell Baker infused his personality and sense of humour by including things that aren't normally seen in a turkey's preparation. Many of the directions are useless when it comes to slicing the turkey, which I suppose was the writer's point. There was less emphasis on really completing the work and more on making you laugh.

 This piece was overall really informative and eye-opening to me. The message is really powerful and timely in today's world. Naheed's life experiences and knowledge will teach young people that it isn't about what you wear or how you appear. It all comes down to who you are as a person. Naheed's essay is directed at young ladies growing up in a patriarchal society. As a woman, I found this to be a fascinating subject. She writes from personal experience and I believe that some of the advice in this essay would be accepted by young ladies.
