Neat People VS Sloppy People (by Suzann Britt)

After reading this humorous piece by Suzann Britt, I’ve fully grasped it’s valid content. Neat people were surely characterized negatively which only highlighted that the writer was evidently a sloppy person. I completely agree that there is a difference between both a sloppy and a neat person. However, the word “neat” is merely a positive word which purely means us neat people are not to be described as ineffective as aforementioned. We should be described as immaculate and tidy people who expresses careful and meticulous traits instead. Predominately, this piece was undoubtedly insightful.

Choosing Topics, creating topic sentences and identifying the controlling idea

After a fruitful discussion in class, I have a better understanding of topic sentences and the controlling idea. The topic sentence is usually the first sentence in a paragraph. The controlling idea tells your reader what is the main idea of your topic. Here are some topics I chose to create topic sentences and identified the controlling idea: Topic : Teaching a child good manners  Controlling idea: Impact on a child's future  Topic sentence: Teaching a child good manners leads a huge impact on their future. Topic: Two years in the military  Controlling idea: How will my country benefit? Topic sentence: How will my country benefit after serving two years in the military? Topic: Text messaging  Controlling idea: Fastest and efficient way of communicating.  Topic sentence: Text messaging is one of the fastest and efficient way of communicating.

Text Messaging

Many agree that text messaging is one of the fastest and efficient way of communicating. Texting isn't only reserved for a younger crowd. People of all ages use text messaging to communicate with family and friends. Text messaging is a very powerful means of communication because it tends to be high priority meaning messages are likely to be read and replied to right away. Before text messaging came about, other means of getting information around included mailing letters, using telegraphs and even reading paintings and drawings. Can you imagine how much time would be consumed, and not getting information around as fast as you want? Text messaging is also concise and conversational which allows us to conversate as if we were communicating in person or on the phone. The phenomenal   evolvement of text messaging has made communication significantly easier and reliable.

My understanding of an Introduction

An introductory paragraph is one of the main elements when writing.  The purpose of an introduction is to give the reader a summary/idea of what you are writing about. Introductory paragraphs are very important because it gives the reader a clear understanding of your topic, the purpose and/or the main idea. When writing an essay some elements I would use are a clear thesis, an appropriate tone, and appropriate evidence to back up my thoughts and ideas.

Brainstorming the word Crisis

Pandemic, Sadness, Dangerous, Mentally Unstable, Specific Period, Difficult,  Disruption, Long and fear are most of the word that came to mind when I taught of the word CRISIS! Putting these word into categories were a bit tricky, but I eventually I managed to group them acordingly: Pandemic---------> was categorised under "Outbreak/Disease " Sadness, Mentally Unstable, and Fear--------> were categorised under "Emotions" Dangerous, Difficult, and Disruption---------> were categorised under "Harm" Specific Period, and Long--------> were categorised under "Time" I found this exercise to be very interesting and helpful. Brainstorming helps to stimulate your ideas, and this has helped me to choose and categorize what came to mind when I thought of the word crisis. What was most difficult for me was categorizing my ideas that were grouped together. After I jotted down my ideas, I put the words that were similar in groups, and placed them ...

My Experience with writing

During my experience so far I can say  that    I am not a big fan of writing but I enjoy it most of the times because it allows me to express myself and ideas with no limitations. Writing gives me the freedom to express all of my thought and when I put my pen to a piece of paper, I can't stop writing. What I dislike mainly about writing is the challenge of formulating my thoughts and ideas to a professional level, so that my reader can grasp and understand the concept. My main weakness is "writer's block". When ever I get writer's block, I have to brainstorm new ideas and thoughts. Overall I can say that my writing experience has been great so far.
